We're SEEKHO, a non-profit organization on a mission to identify and empower local changemakers to uplift rural India.
Every village in India has changemakers working to create a dignified quality of life for India's 700,000 villages.
They work to improve education systems, create nutrition and wellness programs, foster strong sense of community and more. But quality of life isn't any one of these independently. It's all of them together.
We call this Gross Village Well-Being (GVW).
We allow the community to decide which problems are most important to pursue, and then measure progress on GVH according to these five areas:
Education is the foundation for everything. Our changemakers identify issues within their communities and help implement contextual programs using our Education for Education as a foundation to build trust and ensure economic sustainability. Using the Positive Education modules along with the identified community assets, they design programs that leverage the village strengths.
Community and Cultural Vitality
The communities are made up of people from different castes and religions, so many of our changemakers help to unify them through activities that allow them to see beyond their differences. A strong, active, and connected community makes realizing their collective potential possible and therefore much more enjoyable.
While money and material conditions cannot buy happiness, a secure household and livelihood is essential for well-being. Our changemakers help improve community living standards so that people are free to pursue the things they really care about.
Good health is a critical aspect of living a fulfilled life. Our changemakers help communities address pressing health issues and design contextual solutions. By bringing together the collective potential of the community, our changemakers are able to address preventable and easy-to-treat health problems so that villagers can lead healthy active lives.
Psychological Well Being
We train our changemakers in scientifically-backed practices for increasing well-being, and they, in turn, share these teachings with the community. Well-being, or feeling like you are at your best, is a great goal in and of itself, but it is also associated with higher income, better health, and higher academic achievement.
